Lisa Solomon's Trip to Salvador, Brazil
I wanted to share a bit of my Salvador, Brazil trip with you…
This was definitely a lifetime experience. You know before you come here, that you will change somehow, but until you do it, see it, live it first-hand, the passion for service and volunteer work shines through. I know I want to share my experience as loud as I can through words, pictures and stories.
I enjoyed all the people we served. I made new friends; I will forever have many of these faces engrained in my heart and memory. This experience brought a new element of joy and warmth to my life. It was life changing and I do not know what life will be like with this new perspective. This experience makes me want to share and act on my deep passion for helping others.
When I taught a 10 year old Cancer patient (the boy in the 3rd picture) Daniel, how to speak English it was very memorable to me. The joy he had and him also teaching me Portuguese was shared. We were having back and forth conversations and it brought me great joy to see his happiness and sense of accomplishment.
I was speechless when I was able to visit with doctors and actually go inside a surgery room and witness a patient who was a burn victim. The experience of the whole event with the doctors, nurses and medical team and the conversations we engaged in was very exciting. My work still isn’t done, and it is overwhelming to know that there are needy places like this all over the WORLD!
I am passionate about making a difference and if you can donate any toys (even used) or learning supplies (coloring books, crayons, clothes) please let me know. I am putting together a collection to send to the needy Brazil children. And know that these such things will be enjoyed and appreciated directly by the children (I have hundreds of pics of) and not taken by someone else. My team leader from Global Volunteers in Brazil even goes so far as to take pictures of the children who receive any items.
As I am fond of quotes, I end with BE THE HERO TO YOUR OWN LIFE’S JOURNEY by Mother Teresa.
So much to do...so little time. Every minute is worth being exactly where we are at this moment.
